A month of fabulous field trips

A month of fabulous field trips

CSF students had some great experiences "close to home" - taking their learning to the Florentine streets, they went to the Leonardo da Vinci museum and up to Piazzale Michelangelo to conduct a topography study in their high school geography class.

Grade 5 got to experience the master Leonardo da Vinci's works firsthand at the interactive museum dedicated to him in Florence. They explored many of his fascinating inventions and learned more about his life thanks to the English-speaking guide. How blessed we are to have museums like this one to explore in person!

Next, both Grade 9 classes and their teacher, Ms. Bonavoglia, welcomed Spring during their Geography outing to Piazzale Michelangelo to conduct a topography study of the city. They walked to and from the destination, observing the contrast between the intense trafficked area in the valley, and the quiet, natural surroundings as they approached the nearby hills.

The principal scope was to put into practice their observational skills. Later, the students will transpose these images and reflections of Florence in a creative presentation featuring the past, the present and the future of their city. They will work to create connections with everything they have covered in their coursework this semester: mapping, topography, physical landscape features, population density, population settlements, industrialization, urbanization, renewable/non-renewable sources of energy, environmental impact, de-ruralization, and the impact of human activity in the rapidly changing scenario.

After the trip, the students produced beautiful topography maps with their observations and reflections of the past, present and future of the city.

Lastly, students from Grades 7 to 10 in our music program recently travelled to Venice by train for an unforgettable music trip! They attended a live performance by the Venice Music Project, a Baroque orchestra who play entirely on original period instruments. It was a rare and inspiring experience which brought our students' music studies to life. In true Italian style, the day was topped off with a well-deserved gelato. It was a wonderful opportunity to explore music history and culture all in one magical day!
